I’m up for some concerts. Where is the music playing?

If you’re into live music, Zurich has something for every taste: from local bands playing in small venues to international superstars at the Hallenstadion – it’s your choice.

myfriendfromzurich would like to point out two special series of live music to you:

Tuesday concerts at La Catrina: It’s one band for one month, free entrance and always great indie music. Starting 9:30 pm.

Wednesday music at Bäckeranlage: Sunshine or rain, every summer Wednesday, all kinds of music, festival feeling in one of Zurichs most cosy parks.  Starting 8 pm.

Help! How can I escape the World Cup mania?

Hmm… that’s a though one! Soccer is topic number one – and it will be so until the finale on July 13. To avoid the cheering crowds, here are some suggestions:

Choose the longest movie, Zurichs cinemas have to offer – in the dark halls of the cinema you will be saved from the soccer fans. More about Zurichs movie culture here.

In good weather, spend the evening at Badi Wollishofen or Mythenquai, they are tv free. Or hide at a museum, most of them are open until 8 pm on some nights of the week.

Invest in good ear plugs, get a good night’s sleep, rise early the following day and explore the city and its surroundings. Browse our tips here.

Where can I watch the World Cup Games?

In a few hours, the 2014 World Cup Games will start and also in Zurich soccer will be topic number one. myfriendfromzurich suggests you gather your friends in front of your tv and cook typical dishes from the nations that are competing – or if you’re to lazy to cook, at least get the according beers.

If you’re more into public viewing, don’t worry: There won’t be many bars that won’t show the games. The largest place for public viewing in Zurich probably is the venue at the Europaallee. If you prefer to avoid the crowds and watch the games in a more familial atmosphere, here are our top three public viewing places:

Piccolo Giardino: The cozy bar in the turn of Schöneggstrasse is always a good address for soccer lovers.

Zum Glatten Köbi: The Köbi crew conquered the halls of club Supermarket for the whole month. And there will be more than just soccer: music, dance and art too. PS – did you know, that the name honors the famous Swiss soccer trainer Köbi Kuhn?

Morgarten Bar: It won’t matter if your team is loosing or the game just isn’t that exciting – after all you’re sitting in one of Zurichs newest hip bars at one of the citys most beautiful squares.

(printscreen: holterpolter.ch)

If you’re not into the usual condom-selling and kiss-collecting games which are so typical for hen nights, then rely on the girls of Holter Polter: On their lead, a classy, personal and fun girls night out is guaranteed. Choose from different packages such as «Vintage Vanity», «Fitness Fantasy» or «Cosmetic Cosmos» and let the Holter-Polter-girls take care of the rest, from catering to photo shoot and personal shopping.

Be assured, you might still have a hangover after your hen night with Holter Polter. But also some great memories.

BTW: Holter Polter does stag nights too!

Ah, and talking of hangovers: Of course we know a cure for that too!

I’m totally into public viewing. Where can I watch the Olympics?

If you want to watch the Olympic games together with other sports fans, you’ll be best off at places that usually show a lot of sports. Try pubs such as Nelsons or Oliver Twists. Also Piccolo Giardino might put its tellie on for some Olympic fever – check its homepage to confirm.

Why not organise an olympic party at your place?! Gather your friends, watch the games and cross your fingers for your favorite athletes – it will be fun! For easy tv snacks, have a look here.
