France part I: I am looking for “un peu de la France” far from home. Give me some tips!
One important thing is French food, we guess. Here are some culinary suggestions:
Mère Catherine is situated in an ideal spot in the middle of the old town. Enjoy the excellent food in the style of southern France in the lovely Mediterranean-like decorated restaurant or in summertime, in the cosy courtyard.
At Brasserie Lipp real gourmets can enjoy some fresh cuisine bourgeoise in a belle epoque atmosphere. If you just feel like having a drink or want to relish a digestif and a terrific view over Zurich after dinner, move up to the Jules Verne Bar. It is located on top of the Zurich observatory, where you could also join some guided tour at 9pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
In the industrial area of Zurich, you’ll find kind of the opposite of the above listed restaurants: Les Halles. This garage-style place is a wonderful hideaway, offering mostly organic food from around the Mediterranean with a particularly French touch. Try the ever fresh moules et frites and get some French wine or local beer with it. It is a vibrant and busy place, so don’t bring your date there!
A bit outside of the inner city, at Römerhof, there is Le Pain Quotidien. Get yourself some brioches, baguettes or un café au lait there and dream about la France.
Another fundamental thing is being well dressed, are we right? well… à la prochaine!
