I’ve come to Zurich and now it’s raining. Any suggestions for indoor activities?
Yes, the grey and cold are back. We also wonder where lovely misses spring has gone. But, nevertheless, there are still plenty of things to do in Zurich on a rainy day:
Buy a thick book (read our suggestions for book shops) and spend the day reading in a cosy coffee place like Casablanca, Plüsch or Dihei.
Visit one of Zurichs many museums. Our favorites are Rietberg, Bellerive and the Museum of Design. Or chose one from the complete list Zurich Tourism made.
Brave the elements with dolce far niente: Visit the lunch cinema and treat yourself with a visit at one of Zurichs spas afterwards.

Event Tip: ewz.stattkino
Once a year, the ewz Unterwerk Selnau is an adventure cinema! From the 12 until the 24 of February, film lovers have the opportunity to watch all different kinds of films.
A rich entertainment program like live soundtrack, culinary delicacies or special dubbing ad up to an unforgetable film experience.
Make sure to book your tickets in advance, the screenings are normally sold out. You’ll find the program and more information about the locations here.
It´s my mission to visit a cinema in every foreign city I´ve been to. Where do I find one in Zurich?
Hmm… interesting request. But no judging, so here we are: For mainstream movies check Kitag. Riffraff has a good agenda of independent movies, Xenix and Uto (the oldest cinema in town) special reprises.
Riffraff and Xenix are nice places for a beer or a quick bite too – you’re even allowed to bring your drinks into the cinema hall.
For those of you on a budget: In Zurich, Monday night is cinema night! Tickets are available for 13 Swiss Francs only – a bargain!
Event Tip: Zurich Film Festival
From September 20 to September 30, Zurich is the place to be for film lovers. For the eighth time the Zurich Film Festival brings an interesting mix of international film premieres, independent productions, documentaries and special screenings to Zurich.
Big name stars such as John Travolta, Richard Gere and Til Schweiger will be in Zurich for the glamorous Award Nights – if you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of them on the red carpet!
myfriendfromzurich is especially looking forward to the films in the category “New World View” – this year it focuses upon the current cinematic oeuvre of Sweden.
