Don’t worry, dear stressed out shopper, you’re saved: three of our favorite shops team up for a special Christmas market from December 5 – December 7. At Christmas Karlsson you’ll find bits and bobs from Dotti’s Vintage and Waldraud and Highlight My Day. If you need a break, restaurant Fink will provide you with mulled wine and other delights.

Santa Claus will be there too and if you’re lucky, you’ll even win a present for yourself at the wheel of fortune.

Winter in Zurich: Food, part II

With cold weather like this, it’s the perfect time to stay in and bake Christmas cookies, or as we call them “Guetzli”.  Typical Swiss Christmas Guetzli are “Mailänderli”, “Chräbli” or “Brunsli”.

For scrumptious Mailänderli, you need:

250g butter
240g sugar
1/2 Tsp Salt
3 Eggs
The zest of 1 lemon
500g white flour

Mix all ingredients together until you get a soft dough. Store in the cold for about two hours. Then start baking!

Here you’ll find inspiration for your own baking adventure.

Winter in Zurich: Christmas presents

As Christmas is just less than a month away, the thought of the perfect present for our dear ones gets more and more urgent every day. There are enough shops to browse in Zurich, but in December, several Christmas markets open as well.

At the markets inside the central station, at Niederdorf and and at Bellvue you’ll find stalls offering everything from traditional handcrafts, food to bits and bobs. Vintage items and things by young designers can be bought at Heiliger Bimbam (7.-9., Plaza and 21.-23., Maag Halle), the Christmas market made by the girls of Montagsmarkt.

If you’re looking for a personal and handmade present: Handcraft your own candle at Bürkliplatz. It takes time and patience, brings back childhood memories and it’s also a nice time-out from the rush outside.
